महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-12, chapter-69, verse-29

सम्यग्दण्डधरो नित्यं राजा धर्ममवाप्नुयात् ।
नृपस्य सततं दण्डः सम्यग्धर्मे प्रशस्यते ॥२९॥
29. samyagdaṇḍadharo nityaṁ rājā dharmamavāpnuyāt ,
nṛpasya satataṁ daṇḍaḥ samyagdharme praśasyate.

nṛpasya satatam daṇḍaḥ samyak dharme praśasyate

29. A king who consistently administers justice (daṇḍa) properly will always attain righteousness (dharma). Indeed, for a king, the constant and proper administration of justice (daṇḍa) is highly lauded as embodying the natural law (dharma).
