महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-12, chapter-69, verse-21

न च वश्यो भवेदस्य नृपो यद्यपि वीर्यवान् ।
हीनश्च बलवीर्याभ्यां कर्शयंस्तं परावसेत् ॥२१॥
21. na ca vaśyo bhavedasya nṛpo yadyapi vīryavān ,
hīnaśca balavīryābhyāṁ karśayaṁstaṁ parāvaset.
21. na ca vaśyaḥ bhavet asya nṛpaḥ yadyapi vīryavān
hīnaḥ ca balavīryābhyām karśayan tam parāvaset
21. nṛpaḥ yadyapi vīryavān (asti),
asya ca vaśyaḥ na bhavet.
(atha) hīnaḥ ca balavīryābhyām (śatruḥ cet),
tam karśayan (ekaḥ) parāvaset.
21. Even if a king is powerful, he should not become subservient to another. And if (the enemy) is inferior in strength and valor, one should harass him and make him retreat.
