महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-12, chapter-258, verse-73

चिरमन्वास्य विदुषश्चिरं शिष्टान्निषेव्य च ।
चिरं विनीय चात्मानं चिरं यात्यनवज्ञताम् ॥७३॥
73. ciramanvāsya viduṣaściraṁ śiṣṭānniṣevya ca ,
ciraṁ vinīya cātmānaṁ ciraṁ yātyanavajñatām.

73. Having attended upon the wise for a long time, and having cultivated the company of the disciplined (śiṣṭa) for a long time, and having disciplined oneself (ātman) for a long time, one then attains lasting respect.
