मत्स्या इवाभवन्सेनास्ताराश्च मणयोऽभवन् ॥ ४० ॥

rodas-randhre [saḥ andhakāraḥ] pravisṛtaḥ eka-arṇavaḥ iva abhavat.
senāḥ matsyāḥ iva abhavan,
ca tārāḥ maṇayaḥ abhavan.
senāḥ matsyāḥ iva abhavan,
ca tārāḥ maṇayaḥ abhavan.
40.
It (the darkness) spread throughout the interspace of the worlds, becoming like the primordial ocean (ekārṇava). The armies became like fish, and the stars became like gems.
