वाल्मीकि-रामायणम्       vālmīki-rāmāyaṇam - book-7, chapter-35, verse-16

अमोघशापैः शापस्तु दत्तो ऽस्य ऋषिभिः पुरा ।
न वेदिता बलं येन बली सन्नरिमर्दनः ॥१६॥
16. amoghaśāpaiḥ śāpastu datto'sya ṛṣibhiḥ purā ,
na veditā balaṃ yena balī sannarimardanaḥ.
16. amoghaśāpaiḥ śāpaḥ tu dattaḥ asya ṛṣibhiḥ purā
na veditā balam yena balī san arimardanaḥ
16. purā amoghaśāpaiḥ ṛṣibhiḥ asya śāpaḥ tu dattaḥ
yena balī arimardanaḥ san balam na veditā
16. Indeed, a curse was given to him long ago by sages whose curses are unfailing. By this curse, his strength was not known to him, even though he is mighty and a subduer of enemies.
