वाल्मीकि-रामायणम्       vālmīki-rāmāyaṇam - book-7, chapter-35, verse-12

न हि वेदितवान्मन्ये हनूमानात्मनो बलम् ।
यद्दृष्टवाञ्जीवितेष्टं क्लिश्यन्तं वानराधिपम् ॥१२॥
12. na hi veditavānmanye hanūmānātmano balam ,
yaddṛṣṭavāñjīviteṣṭaṃ kliśyantaṃ vānarādhipam.
12. na hi veditavān manye hanūmān ātmanaḥ balam
yat dṛṣṭavān jīviteṣṭam kliśyantam vānarādhipam
12. manye hanūmān ātmanaḥ balam na hi veditavān,
yat jīviteṣṭam kliśyantam vānarādhipam dṛṣṭavān.
12. I think Hanumān certainly did not know the strength of his own self (ātman), since he saw the king of monkeys (Sugrīva), who was dearer than life, suffering.
