मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-63, verse-35

तदाभिभूतः स तदा तामुत्सृज्य निशाचरः ।
प्रसीद शाम्यतामस्त्रं श्रूयताञ्चेत्यभाषत ॥३५॥
35. tadābhibhūtaḥ sa tadā tāmutsṛjya niśācaraḥ .
prasīda śāmyatāmastraṃ śrūyatāñcetyabhāṣata.
35. tada abhibhūtaḥ sa tada tām utsṛjya niśācaraḥ
prasīda śāmyatām astram śrūyatām ca iti abhāṣata
35. Then, being overpowered, that demon (niśācaraḥ) abandoned [his efforts] and spoke thus: 'Please be gracious! Let this weapon (astra) be calmed, and listen to me!'
