महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-8, chapter-68, verse-45

यस्य ब्राह्मणसात्सर्वमात्मार्थं न महात्मनः ।
नादेयं ब्राह्मणेष्वासीद्यस्य स्वमपि जीवितम् ॥४५॥
45. yasya brāhmaṇasātsarvamātmārthaṁ na mahātmanaḥ ,
nādeyaṁ brāhmaṇeṣvāsīdyasya svamapi jīvitam.
45. yasya brāhmaṇasāt sarvam ātma-artham na mahātmanaḥ
na adeyam brāhmaṇeṣu āsīt yasya svam api jīvitam
45. mahātmanaḥ yasya sarvam brāhmaṇasāt na ātma-artham.
yasya svam jīvitam api brāhmaṇeṣu na adeyam āsīt.
45. For that great-souled one (mahātman), everything he possessed was for the Brahmins (brāhmaṇa), not for his own self (ātman). There was nothing that could not be given to Brahmins, not even his own life (jīvitam).
