महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-8, chapter-68, verse-19

गजैर्निकृत्तापरहस्तगात्रैरुद्वेपमानैः पतितैः पृथिव्याम् ।
यशस्विभिर्नागरथाश्वयोधिभिः पदातिभिश्चाभिमुखैर्हतैः परैः ।
विशीर्णवर्माभरणाम्बरायुधैर्वृता निशान्तैरिव पावकैर्मही ॥१९॥
19. gajairnikṛttāparahastagātrai;rudvepamānaiḥ patitaiḥ pṛthivyām ,
yaśasvibhirnāgarathāśvayodhibhiḥ; padātibhiścābhimukhairhataiḥ paraiḥ ,

19. mahī vṛtā gajaiḥ nikṛttāparahastagātraiḥ udvepamānaiḥ
pṛthivyām patitaiḥ ca paraiḥ yaśasvibhiḥ
nāgarathāśvayodhibhiḥ padātibhiḥ abhimukhaiḥ hataiḥ
viśīrṇavarmābharaṇāmbarāyudhaiḥ niśāntaiḥ pāvakaiḥ iva
19. The earth was covered with elephants whose other trunks and bodies had been severed, who were trembling and had fallen to the ground. It was also covered with glorious enemies, who fought from elephants, chariots, and horses, and with foot soldiers, all of whom had been slain while facing the front, their armor, ornaments, garments, and weapons shattered. The earth appeared as if covered by extinguished fires.
