rājan tataḥ tasya arjunasya ādhiratheḥ ca anyonyam āsādayatoḥ,

O King, then a very great battle ensued between that Arjuna and Adhirathi (Karna), as they confronted each other with arrows, fierce like two elephants clashing with their tusks.
