महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-12, chapter-47, verse-34

यं दृगात्मानमात्मस्थं वृतं षोडशभिर्गुणैः ।
प्राहुः सप्तदशं सांख्यास्तस्मै सांख्यात्मने नमः ॥३४॥
34. yaṁ dṛgātmānamātmasthaṁ vṛtaṁ ṣoḍaśabhirguṇaiḥ ,
prāhuḥ saptadaśaṁ sāṁkhyāstasmai sāṁkhyātmane namaḥ.

34. The Sāṃkhya philosophers describe the conscious self (ātman), which resides within oneself and is enveloped by sixteen constituents, as the seventeenth element. Salutations to that self (ātman) understood through Sāṃkhya philosophy.
