मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-58, verse-66

आकाशाद्देवतानाञ्च दैत्यादीनाञ्च दौर्हृदाः ।
पृथ्व्यां पतन्ति ते लोके लोकवादा इति श्रुताः ॥६६॥
66. ākāśāddevatānāñca daityādīnāñca daurhṛdāḥ .
pṛthvyāṃ patanti te loke lokavādā iti śrutāḥ.
66. ākāśāt devatānām ca daityādīnām ca daurhṛdāḥ
pṛthvyām patanti te loke lokavādāḥ iti śrutāḥ
66. The malicious intentions (daurhṛda) of the gods, as well as those of the demons and others, descend from the sky to the earth. These are known in the world as popular traditions (lokavāda).
