मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-39, verse-39

जितां जितां शनैर्भूमिमारोहेत यथा गृहम् ।
दोषान् व्याधींस्तथा मोहमाक्रान्ता भूरनिर्जिता ॥३९॥
39. jitāṃ jitāṃ śanairbhūmimāroheta yathā gṛham .
doṣān vyādhīṃstathā mohamākrāntā bhūranirjitā.
39. jitām jitām śanaiḥ bhūmim āroheta yathā gṛham |
doṣān vyādhīn tathā moham ākrāntā bhūḥ anirjitā
39. One should ascend each conquered territory (bhūmi) slowly, just as one would a house. For, an unconquered territory, when attempted to be seized, breeds defects (doṣa), diseases (vyādhi), and delusion (moha).
