मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-103, verse-25

विगुणेष्वपि पुत्रेषु न माता विगुणा पितः ।
पादस्ते पततां पुत्र कथमेतत्प्रवक्ष्यति ॥२५॥
25. viguṇeṣvapi putreṣu na mātā viguṇā pitaḥ .
pādaste patatāṃ putra kathametatpravakṣyati.
25. viguṇeṣu api putreṣu na mātā viguṇā pitaḥ |
pādaḥ te patatām putra katham etat pravakṣyati
25. O father, a mother is not unworthy even towards unworthy sons. (Yet, she cursed me, saying,) 'May your foot fall, son!' How can this (curse) proclaim (that she is a worthy mother)?
