मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-103, verse-17

स्नेहान्न पूर्वजातानां तथा कृतवती सती ।
मनुस्तत्क्षान्तवांस्तस्या यमश्चास्या न चक्षमे ॥१७॥
17. snehānna pūrvajātānāṃ tathā kṛtavatī satī .
manustatkṣāntavāṃstasyā yamaścāsyā na cakṣame.
17. snehāt na pūrvajātānāṁ tathā kṛtavatī satī manuḥ
tat kṣāntavān tasyāḥ yamaḥ ca asyāḥ na cakṣame
17. And that virtuous lady (Chhaya, in Saṁjñā's stead) did not act with similar affection towards the previously born children (of Saṁjñā). Manu (Vaivasvata) tolerated her conduct, but Yama did not bear it.
