They, inquisitive about that (Ashvatthama's) power, and eager to witness the (carnage of the) Souptika (attack on the sleepers), arrived from all sides. These hosts of spirits (bhūtas) were of terrifying forms, with formidable and fierce iron maces, burning brands, lances, and sharp spears in their hands.
