महाभारतः mahābhārataḥ - book-1, chapter-114, verse-65

नातश्चतुर्थं प्रसवमापत्स्वपि वदन्त्युत ।
अतः परं चारिणी स्यात्पञ्चमे बन्धकी भवेत् ॥६५॥

65. nātaścaturthaṁ prasavamāpatsvapi vadantyuta ,
ataḥ paraṁ cāriṇī syātpañcame bandhakī bhavet.

65. na ataḥ caturtham prasavam āpatsu api vadanti uta
ataḥ param cāriṇī syāt pañcame bandhakī bhavet

65. They declare that even in times of calamity, a fourth progeny is not permitted beyond this limit. Furthermore, after a fourth, she would be considered an unchaste woman (cāriṇī), and with a fifth, she would become a harlot (bandhakī).
