महाभारतः mahābhārataḥ - book-1, chapter-114, verse-18

तं तोषयित्वा तपसा पुत्रं लप्स्ये महाबलम् ।
यं दास्यति स मे पुत्रं स वरीयान्भविष्यति ।
कर्मणा मनसा वाचा तस्मात्तप्स्ये महत्तपः ॥१८॥

18. taṁ toṣayitvā tapasā putraṁ lapsye mahābalam ,
yaṁ dāsyati sa me putraṁ sa varīyānbhaviṣyati ,
karmaṇā manasā vācā tasmāttapsye mahattapaḥ.

18. tam toṣayitvā tapasā putram lapsye
mahābalam yam dāsyati saḥ me putram
saḥ varīyān bhaviṣyati karmaṇā
manasā vācā tasmāt tapsye mahat tapaḥ

18. By pleasing him through spiritual discipline (tapas), I will obtain a son of great strength. The son whom he gives me will be truly superior. Therefore, I will undertake great spiritual discipline (tapas) with my actions (karma), mind, and speech.
