महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-8, chapter-22, verse-13

पुरंदरसमं युद्धे मरुद्गणसमं बले ।
कार्तवीर्यसमं वीर्ये कर्णं राज्ञोऽगमन्मनः ।
सूतपुत्रं महेष्वासं बन्धुमात्ययिकेष्विव ॥१३॥
13. puraṁdarasamaṁ yuddhe marudgaṇasamaṁ bale ,
kārtavīryasamaṁ vīrye karṇaṁ rājño'gamanmanaḥ ,
sūtaputraṁ maheṣvāsaṁ bandhumātyayikeṣviva.

13. The king's mind turned to Karna, the great archer, son of a charioteer, who was like Purandara (Indra) in battle, like the host of Maruts in strength, and like Kārtavīrya in prowess, just as one's mind turns to a kinsman in emergencies.
