महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-13, chapter-101, verse-36

देवाः प्रीणन्ति सततं मानिता मानयन्ति च ।
अवज्ञातावधूताश्च निर्दहन्त्यधमान्नरान् ॥३६॥
36. devāḥ prīṇanti satataṁ mānitā mānayanti ca ,
avajñātāvadhūtāśca nirdahantyadhamānnarān.

36. The gods are constantly delighted. When honored, they (the gods) bestow honor, and when disrespected and spurned, they consume the wicked among humans.
