महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-12, chapter-273, verse-56

श्रूयते हि महाराज संप्राप्ता वासवेन वै ।
ब्रह्महत्या ततः शुद्धिं हयमेधेन लब्धवान् ॥५६॥
56. śrūyate hi mahārāja saṁprāptā vāsavena vai ,
brahmahatyā tataḥ śuddhiṁ hayamedhena labdhavān.

56. Indeed, O great king (mahārāja), it is heard that the sin of Brahmin-killing (brahmahatyā) was incurred by Vasava (Indra). Thereafter, he attained purification through the Ashwamedha (Vedic ritual, yajña).
