महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-6, chapter-45, verse-57

मध्यंदिने यथादित्यं तपन्तमिव तेजसा ।
न शेकुः पाण्डवेयस्य योधा भीष्मं निरीक्षितुम् ॥५७॥
57. madhyaṁdine yathādityaṁ tapantamiva tejasā ,
na śekuḥ pāṇḍaveyasya yodhā bhīṣmaṁ nirīkṣitum.

na śekuḥ Pāṇḍaveyasya yodhā bhīṣmam nirīkṣitum
57. tejasā tapantam madhyaṃdine ādityam iva,
Pāṇḍaveyasya yodhāḥ bhīṣmam निरीक्षितुम् na śekuḥ
57. Just as one cannot gaze at the midday sun blazing with its brilliance, so too, the warriors of Arjuna (Pāṇḍaveya) were unable to look at Bhishma.
