महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-5, chapter-50, verse-39

भीष्मप्रतापात्कुरवो नयेनान्धकवृष्णयः ।
ते न तस्य वशं जग्मुः केवलं दैवमेव वा ॥३९॥
39. bhīṣmapratāpātkuravo nayenāndhakavṛṣṇayaḥ ,
te na tasya vaśaṁ jagmuḥ kevalaṁ daivameva vā.

te na tasya vaśaṃ jagmuḥ kevalaṃ daivam eva vā
39. Due to Bhīṣma's power, the Kurus, and by their policy, the Andhakas and Vṛṣṇis, did not come under his (Jarāsaṃdha's) control. Or perhaps, it was simply destiny.
