महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-12, chapter-159, verse-68

तत्रैव लब्धभोजी स्याद्द्वादशाहात्स शुध्यति ।
चरेत्संवत्सरं चापि तद्व्रतं यन्निराकृति ॥६८॥
68. tatraiva labdhabhojī syāddvādaśāhātsa śudhyati ,
caretsaṁvatsaraṁ cāpi tadvrataṁ yannirākṛti.
68. tatra eva labdha bhojī syāt dvādaśa ahāt saḥ śudhyati
caret saṃvatsaram ca api tat vratam yat nirākṛtiḥ

68. He should eat only what he obtains through begging there. He becomes purified after twelve days. He should also observe that vow (vrata) of renunciation for a year.
