महाभारतः mahābhārataḥ - book-12, chapter-138, verse-29

कालाकालौ संप्रधार्य बलाबलमथात्मनः ।
परस्परबलं ज्ञात्वा तथात्मानं नियोजयेत् ॥२९॥

29. kālākālau saṁpradhārya balābalamathātmanaḥ ,
parasparabalaṁ jñātvā tathātmānaṁ niyojayet.

29. Having carefully considered the opportune and inopportune moments, as well as one's own strengths and weaknesses, and having understood the strengths of others, one should then engage oneself (ātman) accordingly.
