वरशापार्थसंवित्तौ कार्यकारणता कथम् ।
उपादानं विना कार्यं नास्त्येव किल कथ्यताम् ॥ ४७ ॥

Śrī Rāma said: How can there be a cause-and-effect relationship (kārya-kāraṇatā) concerning the understanding (saṃvit) of boons and curses as having real significance (artha)? For an effect (kārya) cannot exist without a material cause (upādāna). Please explain this.
