In the water, all these world-protectors, along with Nāgas, mountains, and cities numbering in the hundreds of thousands, become roused to awareness. They are discernible by the surges (pūra) of water, which are marked by the rumbling and gurgling sounds of the returning floodwaters as they enter the cavernous depths that serve as Lakṣmī’s abode.
