अहंभावतमो यावज्जन्मारण्ये विजृम्भते ।
तावदेता विवल्गन्ति चिन्तामत्ताः पिशाचिकाः ॥ ४० ॥

tāvadetā vivalganti cintāmattāḥ piśācikāḥ 40

40. ahaṃbhāva-tamas yāvat janman-araṇye vijṛmbhate
tāvat etāḥ cintā-mattāḥ piśācikāḥ vivālganti

40. yāvat ahaṃbhāva-tamas janman-araṇye vijṛmbhate,
tāvat etāḥ cintā-mattāḥ piśācikāḥ vivālganti.

40. As long as the darkness of ego (ahaṃbhāva) expands in the wilderness of repeated births (saṃsāra), so long do these female ghouls, maddened by anxiety, dance wildly.
