तावेव पवनर्धि च चक्रतुर्वह्निकर्म च ।
अन्येषाञ्चाधिकारान् स स्वयमेवाधितिष्ठति ।
ततो देवा विनिर्धूता भ्रष्टराज्याः पराजिताः ॥३॥

vahnikarma ca anyeṣām ca adhikārān saḥ
svayam eva adhitiṣṭhati tataḥ devāḥ

Indeed, those two (Śumbha and Niśumbha) performed the functions of Vāyu (the wind god) and Agni (the fire god). And he (Śumbha) himself took charge of the offices of the other deities. Consequently, the gods were expelled, stripped of their kingdoms, and utterly defeated.
