ऋषिरुवाच ।
पुरा शुम्भनिशुम्भाभ्यामसुराभ्यां शचीपतेः ।
त्रैलोक्यं यज्ञभागाश्च हृता मदबलाश्रयात् ॥१॥

The sage said: Formerly, the two demons, Śumbha and Niśumbha, relying on their arrogance and might, seized the three worlds and the shares of the Vedic rituals (yajña) from the lord of Śacī (Indra).
