योगवासिष्ठः       yogavāsiṣṭhaḥ - book-1, chapter-1, verse-9

अस्मिन्नर्थे पुरावृत्तमितिहासं वदामि ते ।
कारुण्याख्यः पुरा कश्चिद्ब्राह्मणोऽधीतवेदकः ॥ ९ ॥
asminnarthe purāvṛttamitihāsaṃ vadāmi te ,
kāruṇyākhyaḥ purā kaścidbrāhmaṇo'dhītavedakaḥ 9
9. asmin arthe purāvṛttam itihāsam vadāmi te
kāruṇyākhyaḥ purā kaścit brāhmaṇaḥ adhītavedakaḥ
9. In this regard, I will tell you an ancient story (itihāsa). Formerly, there was a certain Brahmin named Kāruṇya, who had studied the Vedas.
