मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-74, verse-6

राज्याच्च्युतः सोऽपि वनं गत्वा निर्विण्णमानसः ।
तपस्तेपे महाभागे वितस्तापुलिने स्थितः ॥६॥
6. rājyāccyutaḥ so'pi vanaṃ gatvā nirviṇṇamānasaḥ .
tapastepe mahābhāge vitastāpuline sthitaḥ.
6. rājyāt cyutaḥ saḥ api vanaṃ gatvā nirviṇṇamānasaḥ
tapaḥ tepe mahābhāge vitastāpuline sthitaḥ
6. O highly fortunate one, deprived of his kingdom, he, too, went to the forest with a dejected mind. There, he performed severe austerity (tapas), residing on the sandbanks of the Vitastā river.
