मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-74, verse-34

बालानभैज्ञा वाक्यानां ततः प्रोक्तमिदं मया ।
पितर्यसति नारीभिर्व्रियते हि पतिः स्वयम् ॥३४॥
34. bālānabhaijñā vākyānāṃ tataḥ proktamidaṃ mayā .
pitaryasati nārībhirvriyate hi patiḥ svayam.

34. Being ignorant of such words, I then said this: 'Indeed, when the father is absent, women choose their husband themselves.'
