मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-57, verse-5

मार्कण्डेय उवाच ।
भारतस्यास्य वर्षस्य नव भेदान्निबोध मे ।
समुद्रान्तरिता ज्ञेयास्ते त्वगम्याः परस्परम् ॥५॥
5. mārkaṇḍeya uvāca .
bhāratasyāsya varṣasya nava bhedānnibodha me .
samudrāntaritā jñeyāste tvagamyāḥ parasparam.
5. mārkaṇḍeyaḥ uvāca | bhāratasya asya varṣasya nava bhedān
nibodha me | samudraantaritāḥ jñeyāḥ te tu agamyāḥ parasparam
5. Mārkaṇḍeya said: Learn from me the nine divisions of this land (varṣa) of Bhārata. They should be known as separated by the ocean, and thus inaccessible to each other.
