मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-49, verse-36

कृत्रिमञ्च तथा दुर्गं मित्वा मित्वात्मनो।
ङ्गुलैः ।
मानार्थानि प्रमाणानि तास्तु पूर्वं प्रचक्रिरे ॥३६॥
36. kṛtrimañca tathā durgaṃ mitvā mitvātmano.
ṅgulaiḥ .
mānārthāni pramāṇāni tāstu pūrvaṃ pracakrire.
36. kṛtrimaṃ ca tathā durgaṃ mitvā mitvā ātmanaḥ aṅgulaiḥ
mānārthāni pramāṇāni tāḥ tu pūrvaṃ pracakrire
36. And similarly, having measured man-made fortresses repeatedly with their own finger-breadths, they (the beings) formerly established standards of measurement for that purpose.
