महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-8, chapter-14, verse-50

चन्द्रनक्षत्रभासैश्च वदनैश्चारुकुण्डलैः ।
कॢप्तश्मश्रुभिरत्यर्थं वीराणां समलंकृतैः ।
वदनैः पश्य संछन्नां महीं शोणितकर्दमाम् ॥५०॥
50. candranakṣatrabhāsaiśca vadanaiścārukuṇḍalaiḥ ,
kḷptaśmaśrubhiratyarthaṁ vīrāṇāṁ samalaṁkṛtaiḥ ,
vadanaiḥ paśya saṁchannāṁ mahīṁ śoṇitakardamām.
50. candranakṣatrabhāsaiḥ ca vadanaiḥ ca
cārukuṇḍalaiḥ kḷptaśmaśrubhiḥ atyartham
vīrāṇām samalaṅkṛtaiḥ vadanaiḥ
paśya saṃchannām mahīm śoṇitakardamām

50. Behold the earth, which is now muddy with blood, covered with the faces of exceedingly adorned heroes; these faces shine like the moon and stars, and are embellished with beautiful earrings and neatly trimmed beards.
