महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-13, chapter-4, verse-47

ततो ब्राह्मणतां यातो विश्वामित्रो महातपाः ।
क्षत्रियः सोऽप्यथ तथा ब्रह्मवंशस्य कारकः ॥४७॥
47. tato brāhmaṇatāṁ yāto viśvāmitro mahātapāḥ ,
kṣatriyaḥ so'pyatha tathā brahmavaṁśasya kārakaḥ.
47. tataḥ brāhmaṇatām yātaḥ viśvāmitraḥ mahātapāḥ
kṣatriyaḥ saḥ api atha tathā brahmavaṃśasya kārakaḥ
47. mahātapāḥ viśvāmitraḥ tataḥ brāhmaṇatām yātaḥ.
saḥ kṣatriyaḥ api atha tathā brahmavaṃśasya kārakaḥ
47. Then Viśvāmitra, who had performed great austerities (tapas), attained the status of a brahmin. Although he was a kṣatriya, he thus similarly became the founder of a brahmin lineage.
