महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-5, chapter-35, verse-51

पापं कुर्वन्पापकीर्तिः पापमेवाश्नुते फलम् ।
पुण्यं कुर्वन्पुण्यकीर्तिः पुण्यमेवाश्नुते फलम् ॥५१॥
51. pāpaṁ kurvanpāpakīrtiḥ pāpamevāśnute phalam ,
puṇyaṁ kurvanpuṇyakīrtiḥ puṇyamevāśnute phalam.
51. pāpam kurvan pāpakīrtiḥ pāpam eva aśnute phalam |
puṇyam kurvan puṇyakīrtiḥ puṇyam eva aśnute phalam
51. One who commits evil (karma) and has an evil reputation (pāpakīrti) obtains only the fruit of evil. One who performs virtuous deeds and has a good reputation (puṇyakīrti) obtains only the fruit of virtue.
