योगवासिष्ठः yogavāsiṣṭhaḥ - book-7, chapter-43, verse-5

यथा स्वभावनाद्यक्षस्तरौ सस्वजनं पुरम् ।
पश्यत्यसत्यमेवैवं जीवः पश्यति संसृतिम् ॥ ५ ॥

paśyatyasatyamevaivaṃ jīvaḥ paśyati saṃsṛtim 5

puram eva paśyati evam jīvaḥ saṃsṛtim paśyati

5. Just as a yaksha, through its own imagination (svabhāvanā), perceives an unreal city with its people in a tree, so too the individual soul (jīva) perceives the cycle of rebirths (saṃsāra).

5. כשם שרוח מסוג יַקְשַׁה (יצור שמימי) רואה בדמיונה עיר שלמה ואת קרובי משפחתה בתוך גזע עץ, אף על פי שהיא אינה קיימת כלל, כך הַגִ'יוָוה (הנשמה הפרטית) רואה את סבך הקיום התופעתי.
