योगवासिष्ठः       yogavāsiṣṭhaḥ - book-7, chapter-43, verse-5

यथा स्वभावनाद्यक्षस्तरौ सस्वजनं पुरम् ।
पश्यत्यसत्यमेवैवं जीवः पश्यति संसृतिम् ॥ ५ ॥
yathā svabhāvanādyakṣastarau sasvajanaṃ puram ,
paśyatyasatyamevaivaṃ jīvaḥ paśyati saṃsṛtim 5
5. yathā svabhāvanāt yakṣaḥ tarau sasvajanam puram
paśyati asatyam eva evam jīvaḥ paśyati saṃsṛtim
5. yathā yakṣaḥ svabhāvanāt tarau sasvajanam asatyam
puram eva paśyati evam jīvaḥ saṃsṛtim paśyati
5. Just as a yaksha, through its own imagination (svabhāvanā), perceives an unreal city with its people in a tree, so too the individual soul (jīva) perceives the cycle of rebirths (saṃsāra).
