योगवासिष्ठः       yogavāsiṣṭhaḥ - book-5, chapter-71, verse-42

अन्तःकरणमेवातः कारणं भूतसंसृतौ ।
आत्मा सर्वातिगत्वात्तु कारणं सदकारणम् ॥ ४२ ॥
antaḥkaraṇamevātaḥ kāraṇaṃ bhūtasaṃsṛtau ,
ātmā sarvātigatvāttu kāraṇaṃ sadakāraṇam 42
42. antaḥkaraṇam eva ataḥ kāraṇam bhūtasaṃsṛtau
ātmā sarvātigatvāt tu kāraṇam sat akāraṇam
42. ataḥ antaḥkaraṇam eva bhūtasaṃsṛtau kāraṇam
tu ātmā sarvātigatvāt kāraṇam sat akāraṇam
42. Therefore, the internal organ (antaḥkaraṇa) is indeed the cause of worldly existence (saṃsāra) for beings. However, the self (ātman), because it transcends everything, is the cause but is itself uncaused.
