पूर्वदृष्टमदृष्टं वा प्राग्दृष्टमिति निश्चयैः ।
यदैवेहां विधत्तेऽन्तस्तदा स्मृतिरुदाहृता ॥ २३ ॥

When the inner faculty, through firm convictions such as 'this was seen before,' undertakes an effort concerning something that was either directly perceived in the past or is currently imperceptible, then it is declared to be memory (smṛti).
