मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-18, verse-8

अरक्षंश्चौरतश्चौर्यं तदेनो नृपतेर्भवेत् ।
तस्माद्यदि तपस्तप्त्वा प्राप्तो योगित्वमीप्सितम् ॥८॥
8. arakṣaṃścaurataścauryaṃ tadeno nṛpaterbhavet .
tasmādyadi tapastaptvā prāpto yogitvamīpsitam.
8. arakṣan caurataḥ cauryam tat enaḥ nṛpateḥ bhavet
tasmāt yadi tapaḥ taptvā prāptaḥ yogitvam īpsitam
8. If one does not protect from thieves, then that theft-related sin (enas) will belong to the king. Therefore, if one has attained the desired state of a yogi (yogitva) by performing asceticism (tapas)...
