मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-18, verse-2

पौरैश्चात्माभिषेकार्थं समाहूतोऽब्रवीदिदम् ।
नाहं राज्यं करिष्यामि मन्त्रिणो नरकोत्तरम् ॥२॥
2. pauraiścātmābhiṣekārthaṃ samāhūto'bravīdidam .
nāhaṃ rājyaṃ kariṣyāmi mantriṇo narakottaram.
2. pauraiḥ ca ātma-abhiṣeka-artham samāhūtaḥ abravīt idam
na aham rājyam kariṣyāmi mantriṇaḥ naraka-uttaram
2. and summoned by the citizens for his consecration, he said this: 'O ministers, I will not rule a kingdom that is worse than hell.'
