मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-18, verse-28

दत्तात्रेय उवाच ।
मद्यासक्तोऽहमुच्छिष्टो न चैवाहं जितेन्द्रियः ।
कथमिच्छथ मत्तोऽपि देवाः शत्रुपराभवम् ॥२८॥
28. dattātreya uvāca .
madyāsakto'hamucchiṣṭo na caivāhaṃ jitendriyaḥ .
kathamicchatha matto'pi devāḥ śatruparābhavam.
28. dattātreyaḥ uvāca madya āsaktaḥ
aham ucchiṣṭaḥ na ca eva aham
jitendriyaḥ katham icchatha
mattaḥ api devāḥ śatruparābhavam
28. dattātreyaḥ uvāca aham madya
āsaktaḥ aham ucchiṣṭaḥ ca aham eva
na jitendriyaḥ devāḥ katham
mattaḥ api śatruparābhavam icchatha
28. Dattatreya said: 'I am addicted to liquor; I am ritually impure; and I am certainly not one who has controlled his senses. O gods, how then do you desire the defeat of your enemies from me?'
