For the warrior class (kṣatriya), the Vedic rituals (yajña) are characterized by initiative and enterprise; similarly, for the merchant class (viś), their Vedic rituals (yajña) consist of oblations. However, for the servitor class (śūdra), their Vedic rituals (yajña) are acts of service, while for the twice-born (dvijātayaḥ), their Vedic rituals (yajña) are austerity (tapas).
