महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-1, chapter-71, verse-26

गा रक्षन्तं वने दृष्ट्वा रहस्येकममर्षिताः ।
जघ्नुर्बृहस्पतेर्द्वेषाद्विद्यारक्षार्थमेव च ।
हत्वा शालावृकेभ्यश्च प्रायच्छंस्तिलशः कृतम् ॥२६॥
26. gā rakṣantaṁ vane dṛṣṭvā rahasyekamamarṣitāḥ ,
jaghnurbṛhaspaterdveṣādvidyārakṣārthameva ca ,
hatvā śālāvṛkebhyaśca prāyacchaṁstilaśaḥ kṛtam.

amarṣitāḥ jaghnuḥ bṛhaspateḥ dveṣāt
vidyārakṣārtham eva ca hatvā
śālāvrkebhyaḥ ca prāyacchan tilaśaḥ kṛtam
26. Having seen Kacha alone in the forest protecting cows, the Danavas, enraged, killed him out of hatred for Brihaspati and indeed, for the sake of preserving (their) knowledge. Then, having killed him, they cut him into tiny pieces and offered them to the wolves.
