महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-2, chapter-28, verse-54

एवं निर्जित्य तरसा सान्त्वेन विजयेन च ।
करदान्पार्थिवान्कृत्वा प्रत्यागच्छदरिंदमः ॥५४॥
54. evaṁ nirjitya tarasā sāntvena vijayena ca ,
karadānpārthivānkṛtvā pratyāgacchadariṁdamaḥ.

karadān pārthivān kṛtvā pratyāgacchat arindamaḥ
54. In this manner, having conquered kings through force, conciliation, and victory, and having made them tribute-paying, the vanquisher of foes returned.
