मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-76, verse-46

चाक्षुषेत्याह तं ब्रह्मा तपसो विनिवर्तयन् ।
पूर्वनाम्ना बभूवाथ प्रख्यातश्चाक्षुषो मनुः ॥४६॥
46. cākṣuṣetyāha taṃ brahmā tapaso vinivartayan .
pūrvanāmnā babhūvātha prakhyātaścākṣuṣo manuḥ.
46. cākṣuṣaḥ iti āha tam brahmā tapasasa vinivartayan
pūrvanāmnā babhūva atha prakhyātaḥ cākṣuṣaḥ manuḥ
46. Brahma addressed him as 'Chakshusha' to turn him away from his austerity (tapas). And so, by that former name, he became widely known as Chakshusha Manu.
