किमर्थं तप्यसे वत्स तपस्तीव्रं वदस्व तत् ॥४१॥

Then the divine creator (Prajāpati) spoke to him while he was engaged in penance (tapas): 'My child, why do you perform such intense penance (tapas)? Tell me that.'
